Hello Everyone!
As your Wellness Ministry Director, and as a Personal Trainer specializing in medical exercise for the past 14 years, I will work with and train students, spouses, faculty and staff either individually or in groups, and consult on exercise training programs, post rehab training, fitness assessments, strength and flexibility evaluations, posture and balance, specific medical concerns, injuries, and nutrition at a designated wellness space, green areas or at The University of Chicago gyms where I currently work as a trainer. If you need to be stretched out – Contact me! If you need to be set up on an exercise program at home, outside or at The U of C, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I can even work with you via e-mail for commuter students.
Everyone is welcome “Drop In Basis” into my fitness classes: my Walking Groups, my Stretch/Core strengthening classes for Growth in Faith, and my Ecumenical Plyometrics class. I will constantly send out reminders to the communities of times and days. I will be working with all the divinity schools in the area to bring everyone together at the table through our wellness classes. These classes are free, and the concept of sharing our wellness classes ecumenically as a shared endeavor to make wellness a priority in our churches is powerful. Additional holistic classes will be added in the coming weeks. If there are any classes that you would like to see happen- contact me and I will see what I can do. My ultimate goal is to provide scholarship money for everyone for exercise programs in the area. If you want to join a gym, or Curves or take a kickboxing or yoga class, I’m hoping to make this possible through grant funding. I will need your prayer in this endeavor, and I will keep you posted as soon as scholarship money is available. I will provide resources and advise individuals in their holistic health, guiding them to the proper care for their particular needs (e.g. –physical therapy, sports medicine, alternative medicine, massage, spiritual direction, dean of community, etc). An open house style Wellness workshop will also be held at the end of the school year.
I will also be putting together cooking classes. If anyone is interested in teaching a particular class or if you’re interested in learning how to cook a certain way - please let me know. I invite everyone to participate. Field trips to specific vegetarian and gluten free restaurants such as The Chicago Diner will also be put together in the near future. If anyone has a particular restaurant suggestion I’d really appreciate it if you would contact me.
An art studio is also in the works. I will be contacting the LSTC and McCormick communities to come together in the next week to discuss this amazing creative concept. I will be teaching spiritual art workshops throughout the year, and I would also like to put together an art exhibit of everyone’s work at years end.
I will be putting a Wellness box together for Health, Cooking and Fitness magazines for us to share and recycle throughout the community. And you will be seeing a weekly Wellness column in The Door. If anyone would like to share something with the community that they have experienced, learned or stumbled upon in the news in re: to health, the environment, a healthy recipe, and wholeness, please let me know.
I have a lot of plans for wellness in the community, and I’m very excited to bring the communities together through this venturous effort. I would like to ask the LSTC community for your prayer in this undertaking, and I look forward to working with you all. Thank you!
Blessings!
